Referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll", he is widely regarded as one of the most culturally significant figures of the 20th century. Presley's energetic and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, brought both great success and initial controversy. Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi; his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, when he was 13. He began his music career in 1954 at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African-American music to a wider audience. Presle…

These come off the person record, which names a work and not a production. So we can say this name is attached to the work and we cannot say which staging, or in what capacity. For a composer or a writer that is the whole career we hold; there is no cast list to find them in.

  • Uncertain of the show’s success, O’Brien viewed the role of Eddie as an opportunity to fleetingly live out his dreams of being Johnny Devlin, Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran or Little Richard – with a little bit of Frankenstein’s monster thrown in for good measure – and then shamelessly ‘run away’, leaving the rest of the cast to face any po…ebooks/Bagnall, Rob/Still the Beast is Feeding_ 40 Years of Rocky Horror - Rob Bagnall & Phil Barden.txt
  • Other costumes included the Usherette’s uniform, with a large button badge of Elvis Presley (a tribute to one of Richard O’Brien’s rock ’n’ roll heroes) and a hat embroidered with the legend ‘Sloane Cinemas’; white 1950s-style underwear and lab coats for Brad and Janet; silver tunic space outfits with black shoulder wings and stockings fo…ebooks/Bagnall, Rob/Still the Beast is Feeding_ 40 Years of Rocky Horror - Rob Bagnall & Phil Barden.txt
  • Like the deaths of Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley, the passing of the Sex Pistols’ second bass player Sid Vicious (real name Simon John Ritchie) – the very embodiment of the British punk scene – from a heroin overdose in the early hours of 2 February 1979 marked the culmination of a pop music zeitgeist.ebooks/Bagnall, Rob/Still the Beast is Feeding_ 40 Years of Rocky Horror - Rob Bagnall & Phil Barden.txt
  • Even before the installation of the Riff Raff Statue in Hamilton in 2004, it had long been acknowledged that, while Elvis Presley’s faithful disciples had Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, as a recognisable mecca, so Rocky Horror devotees were blessed with the two Courts. That is the Royal Court Theatre in London’s Sloane Square, where Jim…ebooks/Bagnall, Rob/Still the Beast is Feeding_ 40 Years of Rocky Horror - Rob Bagnall & Phil Barden.txt

  • When Chad (read: Elvis Presley) arrived in town, four councilwomen denounced him. Two of them were white; the other two were black. How did they get elected in the squarest state in the union in 1955? Non-traditional casting could be the reason, but a show about race can’t afford the luxury of that democratic practice. What this page does not know

  • What this person played. No cast list we hold records a character against a performer.
  • Any staging. This name appears in no production cast list we hold — 1,877 of 7,139 people are in that position, most of them writers, composers and designers rather than performers.
  • Which of the credits above the roles on this record — composer — apply to. The roles sit on the person and never on a credit, so a director who also acted looks the same here as one who did not.
