These come off the person record, which names a work and not a production. So we can say this name is attached to the work and we cannot say which staging, or in what capacity. For a composer or a writer that is the whole career we hold; there is no cast list to find them in.

  • Even with Sandy Wilson (1924- )’s The Boy Friend (1953), which was a hit on Broadway, there were tensions. While the original Players Theatre production was performed with just two pianos and drums, producer and director Cy Feur decided that the Broadway production needed to be flashier and broader. He also felt it required an orchestra,…ebooks/Atkey, Mel/Million Miles from Broadway_ Musical Theatre Beyond New York and London, A - Mel Atkey.txt
  • Sandy Wilson did it in The Boyfriend, Lionel Bart did it in Oliver, Frank Loesser did it in The Most Happy Fella, Meredith Willson did it in The Music Man and Noel Coward did it throughout his lifetime. Beyond those few individuals, and except for Mr Coward (for the others were isolated works in long careers), I know no other case in the…ebooks/Citron, Stephen/Musical From the Inside Out, The - Stephen Citron.txt
  • Sandy Wilson’s labor of love looked at the madcap goings-on of a group of finishing school girls romping about in the French Riviera of 1926, and he made sure they and their boyfriends burned up the floor with Charlestons, tangos, two-steps, fox-trots, and the latest dance rage, the Riviera. And one of its major ballads squarely and forth…ebooks/Dietz, Dan/Complete Book of 1950s Broadway Musicals, The - Dan Dietz.txt
  • Despite its well-documented chaotic pre-Broadway tryout (which led to both Sandy Wilson and director Vida Hope being barred from the theatre and resulted in coproducer Cy Feuer taking over directorial duties), the musical was well received by the New York critics. • Divorce Me, Darling! was Sandy Wilson’s sequel to The Boy Friend , and it viewed the characters from a decade later. Like most musical sequels, it didn’t live up to the original. It opened in London at the Globe Theatre on February 1, 1965, for ninety-one performances and was recorded by Decca (LP # LK/SLK-4675; the CD was issued by Must…ebooks/Dietz, Dan/Complete Book of 1950s Broadway Musicals, The - Dan Dietz.txt
  • The show was written by Sandy Wilson, a guy who was definitely sending up that syrupy and overblown style of romantic fairy tale, but not without affection. Even the title was an echo of the airy Rodgers and Hart comedy The Girl Friend. As soon as I got to London I went to see the show and had the exact same reaction as Ernie. I was charm…ebooks/Feuer, Cy/B003L77WUK EBOK - Cy Feuer & Ken Gross.txt

What this page does not know

  • What this person played. No cast list we hold records a character against a performer.
  • Any staging. This name appears in no production cast list we hold — 1,877 of 7,139 people are in that position, most of them writers, composers and designers rather than performers.
  • Which of the credits above the roles on this record — composer, lyricist, book writer — apply to. The roles sit on the person and never on a credit, so a director who also acted looks the same here as one who did not.
