In 1960s New York, young Italian-American Calogero is torn between the values of his hardworking bus-driver father Lorenzo and the seductive world of local mob boss Sonny, who takes the boy under his wing. As racial tensions escalate in the changing Bronx neighborhood and Calogero falls for an African-American girl, he must choose which man's example to follow and what kind of man he wants to become.
