Middle-aged baseball fan Joe Boyd sells his soul to the devil, Mr. Applegate, to become the young slugger Joe Hardy and lead the Washington Senators to victory over the New York Yankees. As Applegate sends the seductive Lola to ensure Joe cannot escape the deal, Joe must choose between his dream of baseball glory and the wife he left behind.
