A musical-within-a-musical follows the feuding divorced couple Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi as they are forced to costar in a musical version of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Their backstage romantic battles mirror the onstage action, while a pair of bumbling gangsters add to the chaos by trying to collect on a gambling debt.
