Imprisoned during the Spanish Inquisition, the aging author Cervantes acts out the story of Don Quixote, a delusional old man who believes himself a knight-errant. Accompanied by his squire Sancho Panza, Quixote tilts at windmills and pursues his impossible dream, transforming the kitchen maid Aldonza into his idealized lady Dulcinea.
