Arrogant phonetics professor Henry Higgins makes a bet that he can transform Cockney flower seller Eliza Doolittle into a lady who can pass for a duchess at an embassy ball. As Eliza masters proper English and high-society manners, a battle of wills develops between teacher and pupil that challenges both their assumptions about class, independence, and love.
