Based on the Amphitryon legend, the god Jupiter assumes the form of mortal general Amphitryon in order to seduce the general's faithful wife Alcmene. Meanwhile, Jupiter's own wife Juno schemes to thwart his philandering, and Mercury acts as a mischievous go-between. The mythological comedy explores the collision between divine desires and mortal fidelity.
