Terrence McNally’s adaptation of E. L. Doctorow’s complex novel about American Society from the turn of the century to World War I interweaves the stories of a WASP family, a Jewish immigrant and his daughter, and Coalhouse Walker, Jr., a black musician, with such historical figures as Henry Ford, Evelyn Nesbit, Emma Goldman, J. P. Morgan, Harry Houdini, and Booker T. Washington.
