Based on the Brazilian novel Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands, the story follows a young woman in Bahia, Brazil, whose dissolute but passionate first husband dies. She remarries a respectable but dull pharmacist, only to have the ghost of her first husband return, forcing her to choose between wild passion and domestic security.
