- In 1895, Florenz Ziegfeld (1867-1932) was travelling in Europe, looking for a new star. He found one in Anna Held , who was under contract to the Folies-Bergère . After paying $1500 to buy her out of her contract, he took her to New York to star in his production of A Parlor Match .
